Diyawanna Oya Canoe Trip
Our longer canoe trip ventures out of Waters Edge and down the Diyawanna Oya. You will be surprised that such a beautiful water body, so close to Colombo exists! The mangroves and reed beds hide the city, a perfect heaven for birdlife and a must for naturalists. The 2 hour trip could part of your physical endurance routine inspired by nature.
Cycle ride around the gravel roads of ‘Waters Edge’
An excellent place to gain confidence on a bike. The traffic free, natural environment of our 3.5km loop is the best place to kick start your cycle fitness program. Getting you out of the gym and into fresh air with birds and trees replacing walls and windows. Average one hour workout is 3×3.5km loop = 10.5km.
Back roads of historic Kotte cycle ride
Riding from Waters Edge we pass the old city walls and ruined monuments, of old 14 – 16 century capital. Stopping to view Rajamaha Temple before returning along the bund of the present day Sri Lanka parliament, Sri Jayawardanapura.
Back roads to Kalaniya Temple cycle ride
Our 21km loop ride along quite back roads and riverside trails take us to Kalaniya Temple. We visit both temples on either side of the river, where the Load Buddha in his 8th year of enlightenment was believed to have settles a dispute between two kings. The Kandyan period frescos adorn the main hall and complimented with the exquisite stylize painting of Soliyas Mendis. Please bring a sarong if you wish to view the main temple.
Kids ‘learn to ride’ cycle program
Kids learn to ride bike program for (5 to 9yrs), how to get your kids off their training wheels and into two wheels! It takes time to undo the dependence on training wheels, but doing this in a group environment with music and fun, helps the children progress quickly , with the more successful kids becoming mentors, it usually takes 2-4 half hour session to ‘get it’. It is important that the children bring their own familiar bike, so once they ‘Get it’ of they go!
Children bikes can be hired for Rs. 400 per session
