The lush tea estates of the hill country

There is no better part of Sri Lanka more suited to mountain biking than the lush tea estates of the hill country. Criss-crossed by dirt tracks which link the old colonial plantations to the picturesque hill stations of a bygone era, this is an unforgettable experience.

Starting in Kandy we traverse the spectacular Knuckles mountain, its a great descent and almost 100% downhill! We stop on route for lunch at the scenic Pitawela water falls, before transferring to Nuwara Eliya the highest and most favoured of the hill stations during the British colonial times. Our route takes us to Horton Plains, the high grassy plateau and ridge forest that is often shrouded in mist. We may see the shy bear monkey as we descend through eerie misty jungle to Hatton where we visit a tea factory and sample the refreshing local brew.
